Firebird, a company operating in the field of cloud and infrastructure solutions for artificial intelligence, has received official permission from the US government to import NVIDIA GPUs to Armenia, according to Presswire. The license enables the project to purchase Blackwell chips, a key element of the AI cluster being created in the country.
The initiative originates from June 2025, when NVIDIA announced its support for the project and plans to create the first large-scale AI data center in the region in Armenia. The 100 MW center will be part of a new generation of infrastructure and will operate on Dell Technologies AI servers and NVIDIA's Blackwell GPUs. The investment volume of the first phase is $500 million.
The launch of the initial phase is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. The project is seen as the initial step in a multi-billion dollar initiative to create a high-performance supercomputing platform in the region for the development and use of artificial intelligence technologies. These plans are a continuation of the memorandum of understanding signed on August 8, 2025 in Washington by the governments of the United States and Armenia. The document focuses on deepening cooperation in the fields of AI, innovation, semiconductors and secure trade.
Razmik Ovakimyan, co-founder and CEO of Firebird, stated: "Our vision is to make advanced AI accessible to everyone. We are creating a technological foundation that will allow engineers, researchers and creative professionals to work with world-class tools, wherever they are."
Firebird co-founder Alexander Yesayan noted the strategic nature of the project:
"These efforts reflect a strong public-private partnership between the United States and Armenia and represent a model of cooperation based on mutual trust and technological progress."
He emphasized that Armenia is creating the prerequisites for the growth of a modern digital and AI ecosystem, which can strengthen professional potential and attract global innovation.
Construction of the Technology Center and Its Significance
The AI data center project in Armenia, in which $500 million will be invested, is designed to create a platform for innovation, scientific research, educational initiatives and entrepreneurship. The center is expected to become a starting point for the development of a regional technology hub and a platform for real AI development. Through the integration of modern computing solutions, it will stimulate the expansion of the startup environment and strengthen ties between the academic sector and industry.
Equipment for the center will be purchased from NVIDIA, and the infrastructure will be owned by a specially created company, Firebird. Dell is also listed among the project partners. As part of the first phase, which is scheduled to launch in 2026, it is planned to deploy thousands of Blackwell GPUs and deploy infrastructure with a capacity of more than 100 MW.
Future Firebird centers will be created on US technology standards and will focus on serving developing markets in the region, providing sustainable and scalable infrastructure for artificial intelligence systems.
