Armenian Energy Sector Accelerates: Production Exceeds 8.16 Billion kWh

Hydro Generation and Solar Plants Soar, While Thermal Power Plants Show a Decline

In Armenia, 8.16 billion kWh of electricity were produced in January–October 2025, which is 7.9% higher than last year's figure. This was reported by the Statistical Committee of the Republic. The growth was primarily driven by hydro and solar power plants, while thermal generation significantly reduced its volumes.

The largest share in the energy balance still belongs to thermal power plants — 30.4%. They generated 2.48 billion kWh, but this figure decreased by almost 12%. The Armenian NPP provided 2.3 billion kWh — an increase of about 3.9%, which is 28.3% of the total volume. Hydroelectric power plants increased production by 15.5% and provided 1.94 billion kWh, occupying 23.8% in the generation structure.

The most dynamic segment was solar power plants: they produced 1.43 billion kWh, which corresponds to an increase of almost 69% and a share of 17.5%. Wind energy remains at a minimal level — only 0.6 million kWh, which is 0.02% of the total volume and is accompanied by a decline of 24.6%.

Since 2023, the statistics also include the volumes produced by autonomous energy producers within the framework of electricity flows, which allows for a more accurate accounting of the growing role of distributed generation.
