Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced the need to tighten control over fare payment in public transport, which is equipped with modern technologies for contactless payment using mobile devices.
According to him, the mayor's office regularly receives appeals from citizens who point to massive cases of fare evasion, primarily by young people. The mayor stressed that the problem has become noticeable and requires concrete action.
Avinyan instructed the relevant departments to intensify work in this direction. He recalled that already in December the staff of control services will be expanded with new inspectors, which should increase the effectiveness of inspections and passenger discipline on routes.
Acting Head of the Public Order Protection Service of the Mayor's Office Avetik Babayan said that 2,512,145 validations were recorded over the past week: 92,161 in trolleybuses, 547,663 in the subway and 1,872,321 in buses. This is 2.4% more than the week before. To strengthen control, it is planned to hire 24 more employees in December.
