Digital Childhood Under Protection: Armenia Enhances Online Safety for Children

Authorities are focusing on cyber literacy, education, and joint actions by the state and society

A memorandum of understanding has been signed in Yerevan, aimed at enhancing online safety for children and developing digital literacy in Armenia. The document was signed by the Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, and the Director of the Izmirlian Foundation Armen Chobanyan.

Mkhitar Hayrapetyan noted that the rapid development of technology brings not only new opportunities but also serious risks, especially for children. According to him, the memorandum is of key importance for creating a safe digital environment and emphasizes the importance of systematic training in cyber literacy, media literacy, and adherence to basic cyber hygiene rules from an early age.

Zhanna Andreasyan called cybersecurity one of the main challenges of our time and stressed that a protected environment can only be ensured through the joint work of the state, the educational system, and public organizations. UNICEF Representative in Armenia Christine Weigand added that digital technologies have become an integral part of the lives of children and adolescents, therefore, protection in the online environment requires a comprehensive and long-term approach focused on safety and conscious use of technology.
