The educational program "Smart Bird Watching: Urban Nature Through the Eyes of Youth" has been launched in Armenia, implemented by the non-profit organization SunChild with the support of Ucom. The initiative aims to develop ecological thinking among schoolchildren using modern digital technologies and to introduce them to urban biodiversity.
As part of the project, 10 BirdBuddy smart feeder cameras have been installed in schools and communities across the country. They allow real-time observation of birds, and built-in artificial intelligence algorithms help children identify bird species. This learning format makes it possible to study nature interactively, analyze the impact of weather and environment on bird behavior, keep scientific diaries, and engage in mapping.
Hundreds of children are participating in the program, including students from a specialized educational complex for children with hearing impairments in Yerevan. Ucom emphasizes that technology can not only connect people but also foster a responsible attitude towards the environment. It is also noted that the BirdBuddy system only records data about birds and does not film children, ensuring confidentiality and security.
