Yerevan needs a large-scale renewal of its public transport fleet to complete the transport reform. According to the Mayor of the capital, Tigran Avinyan, the city needs to purchase another 75 trolleybuses and 250 electric buses. This is in addition to the orders already placed, without which the transition to a modern and environmentally friendly transport model cannot be considered complete.
According to the mayor, in addition to the 45 trolleybuses already under contract, there are plans to purchase another 30 vehicles with a length of 12 meters, as well as 249 electric buses with a length of 18 meters. At the same time, the city continues to modernize its infrastructure: several depots are being repaired, and about 40 digital displays with transport schedules have already been installed at bus stops.
Earlier, the mayor's office ordered 45 Chinese trolleybuses, which are expected to arrive in April–May 2026, the contract amount is about 4.3 billion drams. The authorities also intend to purchase 250 electric buses to replace Higer buses and GAZelle-city minibuses. The total budget of the program is estimated at approximately 98 billion drams and will be financed by a loan from the Asian Development Bank.
