AI Hub Launching in Yerevan with Billions in Investment: University Receives Next-Level Supercomputer

New center at YSU aims to transform the approach to science, data, and education in Armenia

The Artificial Intelligence Center will open at Yerevan State University as early as next week. The launch of the project was announced by the Minister of Education and Science, Zhanna Andreasyan, who noted that it is not a formal laboratory, but a full-fledged technological platform for science and education.

The foundation of the center will be a new supercomputer assembled with Nvidia components. The government allocated over 3.4 billion drams for its purchase, which is equivalent to approximately 9 million dollars. This is one of the largest state investments in university IT infrastructure in recent years.

The system significantly surpasses the capabilities of the "Charles Aznavour" supercomputer, previously installed in the Engineering City. The new equipment is designed to work with large datasets and perform complex calculations, which should boost the development of research, AI development, and the training of new generation specialists in Armenian universities.
