Hundreds of Armenian Residents to Get Refunds on Electric Vehicle Duties

The state will compensate millions of drams due to quota redistribution

Armenian authorities will refund customs duties to 636 citizens who paid them when importing electric vehicles in 2025. This was announced by Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, who noted that the amounts in question are several million drams transferred to the budget during customs clearance of cars.

According to him, a quota system was in place last year: 5,000 electric vehicles were intended for individual buyers and 3,000 for dealers. Some of the dealer quotas were never used, so they were redistributed in favor of individuals and legal entities. Due to the formal expiration of the limit, 636 citizens were forced to pay a duty, which is now subject to refund.

Earlier, the National Assembly of Armenia approved amendments to the Tax Code, extending the VAT exemption on the import of electric vehicles for another year. From 2026, it will apply to both private buyers and dealers and will apply to electric vehicles manufactured in 2024-2026.
