Yerevan Plans to Ban Cars on Several Streets

Mayor Promises Revolution in City Transport

Yerevan authorities are preparing for radical changes: the entry of passenger cars may be completely prohibited on a number of central streets, with the exception of public transport. The initiative is related to the launch of a new system of movement around the city, which will become possible after the appearance of 250 electric buses with a length of 18 meters.

Mayor of the city Tigran Avinyan emphasized that each such bus is capable of replacing 80-100 passenger cars, which means a reduction in emissions of about 25 thousand cars and a significant improvement in air quality. Electric buses practically do not pollute the environment, which makes the project especially important for urban ecology.

According to the mayor, the new transport scheme will not only reduce traffic jams, but also make the streets safer and more comfortable for residents. The authorities hope that restrictions for cars will become an incentive to more actively use public transport and new generation electric buses.
