Armenian authorities have decided to make life easier for air carriers that open new routes. The main measure is exemption from the air fee for using the country's airspace. This will make launching new flights more profitable, and passengers will have additional destinations and potentially cheaper tickets.
Previously, companies that used aircraft rental with a crew from another firm (wet leasing) lost the right to the benefit, as such flights were not formally considered "new." The new law will allow airlines to reapply within a year so that such routes are again considered new and exempt from the fee.
In addition, it is planned to extend the term of the benefit: the exemption can be extended twice for 24 months, which will make it possible not to pay the fee for up to four years. The bill has already been submitted to parliament and is awaiting consideration.
