Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the republic is continuing cooperation with France, the United States, Russia, South Korea, and China on the issue of building a new nuclear reactor. Decisions will be made after answers are received to all technical and legal questions.
The head of government recalled that on August 8, 2025, three memorandums were signed in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump, one of which concerns the energy sector, including nuclear power. Within the framework of these agreements, the parties discussed the possibilities of implementing joint projects in the field of small modular reactors.
On October 1, 2025, Armenia officially announced that the country’s next reactor would be a small modular one. Negotiations are now being conducted with five countries that possess the relevant technologies in order to determine the optimal design and sources of financing for the new facility.
