Armenia chose a course toward a modular nuclear power plant: the project is planned to be launched by 2036

The country's authorities are studying proposals from five countries, with the final decision to be made by 2027

Armenia has made a fundamental decision to build a new modular-type nuclear power plant. As reported by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan, the analysis of proposals from Russia, the United States, China, Korea, and France is currently ongoing, but the specific model has not yet been determined.

According to the minister, there is no rush: the final choice of technology is planned to be made in 2026–2027. After that, it will become known with which country the project will be implemented. A modular nuclear power plant is being considered as a more flexible solution in terms of safety, construction timelines, and investment.

The construction of the new plant is designed for the long term, with commissioning scheduled for 2036. This approach will allow Armenia to strengthen the country's energy security and use modern technological solutions in nuclear energy.
