Armenia Breaks Records: Solar Energy Exceeds 1 GW

The country has introduced about 615 MW of new capacity

2025 became a record year for solar energy in Armenia: the country introduced about 615 MW of new solar capacity, and the total installed capacity of solar power plants exceeded 1.1 GW. This is almost 1.3 times more than the entire accumulated volume at the end of 2024, said Davit Khudatyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.

The main growth was provided by autonomous solar installations: their number exceeded 50 thousand, and the total capacity amounted to about 650 MW. According to Areg.ai, last year solar power plants provided approximately 15% of all electricity generation in the country, and the number of household solar power plants grew by 60% in a year.

Thanks to this, Armenia achieved its target for the share of solar energy ahead of schedule, as stipulated in the strategy until 2030. In the future, the government intends to shift the focus of state support from rooftop solar power plants to hybrid projects and energy storage systems.
