The Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, met with the Director General of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy. The meeting took place in Moscow as part of Simonyan's official visit to the Russian Federation, the press service of the Armenian Parliament reported.
Earlier, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, David Khudatyan, stated that the new NPP in Armenia will be of a modular type, and the final decision on the project is planned to be made in 2026–2027. The Armenian side is already considering a preliminary feasibility study for the construction of a 1200 MW unit, prepared by Rosatom.
The Armenian NPP, the only one in the South Caucasus, is located near Metsamor, 30 km from Yerevan. Currently, the station provides up to 40% of the country's electricity, remaining a key source of generation.
