The Armenia Tree Project, together with Matenadaran and the AHA Collective team, are launching an ambitious project: 1.7 hectares of abandoned slope behind the historical center will become a public park. This is not just landscaping, but the creation of a new urban space that will unite the natural and cultural heritage of Armenia.

The project is being implemented in a collaborative design format: about 40 specialists and local residents — architects, landscape designers, botanists, and researchers from Matenadaran — developed the ideas for the garden as an organic extension of the cultural center. A terraced composition is planned with walking routes, viewpoints overlooking the city, Ararat and Aragats, as well as a collection of plants from medieval Armenian manuscripts. Special attention is paid to the educational function — schoolchildren will be able to participate in classes, seed collection, and programs with botanists.

The project also has a symbolic meaning: in 2026, Armenia will host a major international event on biodiversity, and the garden at Matenadaran will become one of the key points for demonstrating the country's natural and cultural heritage. The results of the work have already been presented at the exhibition «The Sun is Rising: The Matenadaran Garden Vision», open until March 6.
