Armenia expects to extend the operation of the Metsamor NPP until 2046

Pashinyan announced plans for a new extension phase and negotiations on the construction of a new plant

The service life of the Armenian NPP may be extended until 2046. This was announced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. According to him, a program to extend the operation of the Metsamor station until 2036 is currently being implemented, after which another stage is expected — an additional extension of ten years.

At the same time, the authorities intend to decide on the future of the country's nuclear energy. During this period, Yerevan must decide on the construction of a new NPP.

As Pashinyan noted, consultations on this issue are already being held with a number of states, including Russia, the United States, France, China and South Korea.
