Armenia Converts Border Queues to Electronic Format

The new system should reduce traffic jams and increase transparency at border checkpoints

In Armenia, the National Assembly has adopted in the first reading amendments to the law "On Customs Regulation", providing for the launch of an electronic truck queue management system. According to Hamlet Sahakyan, Deputy Head of the State Revenue Committee, the mechanism will first be implemented at the busiest northern and southern border crossing points.

The system will apply to trucks leaving the country. Paid parking lots will be created within a radius of up to 20 km from the checkpoint, where an automated platform will be launched for registering vehicles, distributing queues and issuing permits to enter the checkpoint.

According to a survey of carriers, most face many hours of congestion. The authorities expect that digital accounting of data on transport, cargo and necessary procedures will optimize the flow, reduce waiting times and make the process more transparent and predictable for business.
