Armenia Plans New Satellite for Space Research

Minister Discusses Prospects for Space Program Development

Armenia is seriously considering acquiring a new satellite or several devices for remote sensing and space photography, according to Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan. He stated that such projects, like the first Armenian satellite Hayasat-1, are of great value in terms of science, research, and innovation.

The Minister noted that the industry still has a long way to go to achieve more ambitious goals. It is worth recalling that Hayasat-1, created by the Armenian laboratory Bazoomq and the Center for Education Development and Scientific Innovation, was launched into orbit on December 1, 2023, by SpaceX's Falcon-9 rocket and completed its mission in April 2025. The satellite, weighing only 1 kg, orbited the Earth every 1.5 hours, providing signals available for reception over the territory of Armenia.

The new satellites are planned to be used for in-depth scientific research, monitoring, and innovative projects. The authorities view the expansion of the space program as a strategic step to strengthen the country's technological and research base.
