Armenia will tighten control over citizens who do not have the right to drive a car. The National Assembly Commission approved in the second and final reading amendments to the law "On Ensuring Road Safety" proposed by the government.
As Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Kazaryan explained, now the termination of a driver's license occurs on a number of grounds: the death of the owner, recognition of incapacity, judicial deprivation of rights, as well as confirmed drug addiction or mental disorders - based on a medical report. The new mechanism will replace paper certificates with automatic data exchange.
Information on medical restrictions will be received from the "Armmed" system directly into the electronic register of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. As soon as information about a driving ban appears in the database, the right to drive will be terminated automatically. The database will be updated every 6 months. Over the past 4 years, 2370 cases of driving without a license have been recorded - about 600 annually.
