Armenia and Russia return to the railway: restoration of routes to Turkey and Nakhichevan discussed

Moscow and Yerevan will continue consultations on key infrastructure areas

Negotiations took place in Armenia with the participation of the Russian delegation, headed by Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Dmitry Zverev. The Armenian side was represented by Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Armen Simonyan. The main topic was the restoration of the Gyumri–Akhurik–Turkish border and Yerasx–Nakhichevan border railway sections.

The parties discussed the prospects for infrastructure reconstruction, as well as current cooperation in the field of road transport and air transportation. As a result, an agreement was reached to continue consultations.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan appealed to his Russian colleagues with a request to speed up the restoration of a number of routes, including Yerasx and Akhurik. In February, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk announced plans for a joint assessment of the technical and financial parameters of the projects. Yerevan states that, if necessary, they are ready to carry out restoration work on their own.
