The National Assembly has submitted for ratification a draft agreement on the "Armenia Water Supply and Irrigation Improvement Program: Phase 1." The document envisages attracting a €70.4 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as €70 million from the French Development Agency. Additional funding will be provided by the state budget.
The initiative is designed in two stages. The first will last five years, with a budget of about $185 million. The second phase is estimated at approximately $250 million. The funds will be used to modernize water supply networks, improve the efficiency of irrigation system management, and implement structural reforms in the industry. The construction and reconstruction of reservoirs are not included in the program.
Approximately $25 million in investments are separately provided for rural communities, where it is planned to upgrade local infrastructure and improve the quality of water supply.
