Yerevan Metro celebrates 45 years

Major upgrades are being carried out for the first time since its opening

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan congratulated the residents of the capital on the 45th anniversary of the Yerevan Metro and shared plans for its renovation. He recalled that in the 1970s, few believed that a metro could appear in Yerevan, but thanks to the initiative of Karen Demirchyan, the project became a reality. Today, the metro system remains an important part of the city's infrastructure, surprising tourists with its scale in a relatively small city.

For the first time since its opening, large-scale upgrades are being carried out: outdated rails and safety mechanisms are being replaced, escalators have been updated at four stations, and entrance and exit doors adapted for citizens with limited mobility have been replaced at all stations. Old ventilation systems are also being updated, which significantly increases the comfort and safety of passengers.

The Mayor expressed gratitude to all those who were at the origins of the construction of the metro, and to those who ensure its smooth operation. Thanks to these efforts, thousands of Yerevan residents can quickly and safely get to work, study and other destinations every day, and modernization allows the system to meet modern standards.
