The Armenian authorities have decided to compensate citizens who had to buy new air tickets to return to their homeland due to the cancellation of flights amid hostilities in the Middle East. This was announced by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
According to him, the compensation will amount to up to 250 thousand drams (about 660 dollars). Payments will be received by those citizens whose flights for return or transit to Armenia were canceled due to the conflict, after which they had to purchase new tickets on their own. If the cost of the new ticket turned out to be lower than the specified amount, compensation will be paid in the amount of actual expenses incurred.
The authorities promised to determine the detailed mechanism for receiving payments in the coming days. Against the background of the tense situation in the Middle East, many Armenian citizens were blocked in different countries of the region. As of March 6, about 400 people have already returned to Yerevan from Oman, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and additional flights continue to deliver citizens to their homeland.
