First Virtual Production Studio Based on Unreal Engine to Appear in Armenia

The project was presented by Main People company

The first virtual production (VP-XR) studio in the region is planned to be created in Armenia. The project was presented by Main People company. The technological platform will be based on the Unreal Engine, which is widely used in the modern film industry.

Virtual production technology combines real filming locations with digital scenery. This is achieved through large LED screens and camera tracking systems, so the environment on the screen changes in real time with the camera movement. This approach is actively used by major studios and platforms, including Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+ and Amazon Studios.

The new venue may help attract international film crews to the country. The studio is planned to be located in one of the regions near Yerevan, and the equipment is expected to be delivered by the end of the year. It will be equipped with LED panels, robotic systems and equipment for working with virtual scenery.

The project involves not only the production of films and series, but also the creation of advertising, video games and animation. According to the initiators, the European virtual production market accounts for about 27% of the world's volume, and Armenia could get a part of this segment.

The initiative has already been presented to the Ministry of Economy of Armenia and has received preliminary approval. Support measures for the industry are also being discussed — tax incentives, abolition of customs duties on equipment and a rebate system of up to 30% for foreign filmmakers.
