In Armenia, the second stage of the program to extend the operational life of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant will start in the coming days. According to Minister of Infrastructure David Khudatyan, the plant will undergo a long shutdown for a large-scale scheduled preventive maintenance, which should ensure its operation until 2036.
Key works will be carried out under a contract with Rosatom. The project financing has already been secured: a budget loan of 63.2 billion drams (about $162 million) has been allocated for these purposes. This is one of the largest stages of the plant's modernization in recent years.
In parallel, the authorities are preparing for the next step — the construction of a new nuclear power plant. According to the minister, it is a modular station, and the selection of a specific project is planned to be completed during 2026 or in early 2027.
