How AI is Changing the Media Market Economy of Armenia

Artificial intelligence is changing not only the speed

AI technologies have long ceased to be just a tool for creating content: they are changing the cost and scale of news production. Previously, the preparation of materials directly depended on the number of employees, now algorithms allow you to produce many times more publications with the same resources. An example is the Associated Press, which, after introducing automatic generation of quarterly results reports, increased the output of materials from 300 to more than 3,700, freeing up 20% of journalists' time for investigations and analysis.

The practice of implementing AI is gradually spreading not only among global media brands, but also in regional markets. In Armenia, one example of such a transformation is the ARKA news agency.

AI is also changing the news infrastructure: algorithms process data arrays, structure information flows, and track events in real time. Large media companies such as The Wall Street Journal and Yahoo News have implemented AI functions, which allows the editorial staff to process much more data without increasing staff. The transition to information flow management reduces routine workload and opens up opportunities for analysis and expert interpretation.

However, technology creates a new barrier to entry: data and IT specialists are needed to develop and support systems. In an environment of oversupply of content, the key resource becomes audience trust and the quality of journalism. The experience of the Armenian agency ARKA shows that AI speeds up information processing by half, increases the amount of content and frees journalists from routine work, but final decisions remain with the person, and the role of AI is to expand the capabilities of the editorial office, and not replace it.
