Overchuk Criticized the Construction of Data Centers in Armenia

Benefits in Question

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated that Armenia is unlikely to receive significant benefits from hosting Western data centers on its territory. According to his assessment, the long-term consequences of such a step may be more negative than positive.

According to the official, such projects do not create a noticeable number of jobs, and effective taxation of the profits of such facilities requires complex mechanisms. As a result, the economic return for the country may be limited.

He also noted that data centers increase the load on the power system, which may lead to an increase in electricity tariffs. This, in turn, will affect both the population and businesses, increasing overall costs.
