Armenian Nuclear Power Plant Shut Down for 5 Months

The plant is being prepared for operation until 2036

The Armenian nuclear power plant has been shut down for a long scheduled maintenance — the work will last 153 days. This was announced by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan, noting that the pause is related to a large-scale modernization.

The key goal is to extend the plant's service life until 2036. The project includes the replacement of the cooling system for important components. An agreement has been reached with Rosatom to carry out the work.

The nuclear power plant plays a strategic role for the country, providing about 30% of the total electricity generation. The authorities expect that the upgrade will increase the reliability of the plant and maintain the stability of energy supply in the long term.
