Kazakhstan Denies Rumors of Purchasing Armenian Railways

Information about the possible transfer of the Russian concession has not been confirmed in either Astana or Moscow

Kazakhstan has officially denied reports of negotiations to acquire the Russian concession to manage Armenian railways. The company "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" and the country's Ministry of Transport stated that no discussions on this topic are being held, and they have not received any relevant documents.

Previously, rumors appeared in the information field about the possible transfer of management rights from the Russian side. However, as Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk noted, Moscow has also not received such proposals and learned about these talks from third parties.

The issue of changing the operator was previously allowed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, not excluding the transfer of management to friendly countries, including Kazakhstan. Currently, the Armenian railway network is under concession to the "South Caucasus Railway" - a subsidiary of Russian Railways, which received these rights back in 2008 for a period of 30 years.
