AI under control: Armenia will require marking of content created by neural networks

A fine is threatened for the absence of marking, and the rules will soon be extended to the Internet

The Parliament of Armenia has adopted a bill obliging the media to indicate the use of artificial intelligence when creating content. The new requirements affect television, radio and video production, introducing mandatory labeling of materials created using AI.

According to the document, TV channels must place a text notification at the beginning and at the end of the program or story, and radio stations must voice a corresponding warning. For films and clips, an indication at the beginning is sufficient. Control over compliance with the rules is assigned to the Television and Radio Commission of Armenia.

A fine of 300 thousand drams (about $790) is provided for violation. The authorities also plan to extend regulation to online platforms: similar requirements for Internet services may appear in the coming months.
