Armenia to Implement AI for Road Diagnostics: $1.5 Million Equipment to "Scan" Pavement

The new system will be able to determine the depth of damage and suggest the type of repair

Armenia plans to use artificial intelligence technologies to assess the condition of roads. According to the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, David Khudatyan, the plan involves the purchase of special equipment capable of analyzing the structure of the road surface.

The device will perform a comprehensive scan of the pavement and, using AI, determine what type of repair is needed—from medium to major, including assessing the depth of layer replacement. In essence, the equipment will be able to automatically "diagnose" the road while in motion.

According to the minister, the system is capable of detecting damage, including cracks up to 70 cm deep, which will allow for more accurate work planning. The cost of such solutions, according to market analysis, ranges from $1.2 million to $1.5 million, and this refers to regional-level equipment.
