Armenian Media and AI: Accelerating Work or Increasing Disinformation Risks

Experts assessed how ready newsrooms are for new technologies and threats of the artificial intelligence era

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the work of media, and Armenian newsrooms are already facing the need to adapt to new conditions. According to media experts, AI can accelerate content production, reduce costs, and increase efficiency, but it cannot replace a journalist as a key link in verifying and interpreting information.

Experts note that in Armenia, media use technologies differently: some actively integrate AI into research and material preparation, while others limit themselves to basic tools like image generation. At the same time, one of the main problems remains the lack of unified ethical standards and clear policies for AI use in newsrooms.

Experts pay special attention to the risk of an increase in fake news created with the help of neural networks. In these conditions, the role of fact-checking and professional editorial teams increases. At the same time, AI can become a tool for strengthening trust if media can act as a guarantor of verified information and a filter between the audience and the flow of unreliable content.
