A whole transport era has ended in Yerevan: from June 2, old trolleybuses will completely disappear from the city's streets, giving way to a completely renewed electric transport fleet. The decision was the result of a large-scale modernization of the urban transport system, which has been underway in recent months.
45 new 12-meter Yutong trolleybuses, purchased by the city hall, recently arrived in the Armenian capital. 30 vehicles already started operating on June 1, and the remaining 15 are expected to begin service on June 2, completely replacing the outdated rolling stock.
After the upgrade, the last old trolleybuses are being decommissioned, and the system is transitioning to a new service standard. One of the decommissioned trolleybuses will be preserved as a symbol of the era – it is planned to be converted either into a mobile library or a city cafe.
