Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that it is time to start the construction of the new Yerevan Metro station "Achapnyak". According to him, despite the widespread opinion about the project's delay, there are no serious delays in its implementation.
The head of government proposed to the Yerevan City Hall to begin the practical phase of the project by holding a tender for technical supervision, and then proceed to the next stages of construction. The "Achapnyak" station is to become the 11th station of the Yerevan Metro and the first new station in many years.
The cost of the project has significantly increased in recent years. While initially the construction was estimated at approximately $50 million, in 2026 the estimated cost reached 107.3 billion drams, which is almost $300 million. The project documentation was prepared by the Russian company Metrogiprotrans.
Initially, work was planned to begin in 2024, then the deadlines were repeatedly postponed. In the Yerevan budget for 2025, 9.6 billion drams were allocated for the project, but later the funding was reduced to 1.4 billion drams, reallocating part of the funds for the purchase of new trolleybuses.
