The Armenian police plan to test new patrol cars equipped with an automatic system for detecting drivers using mobile phones. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, Armen Ghazaryan.
Special equipment with a 360-degree view will be installed on the patrol car, which will be able to monitor traffic flow around the vehicle and identify violations. The system will record not only phone calls while driving, but also typing or reading SMS messages, which is also considered a violation of traffic rules.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the problem remains relevant. Since the beginning of 2026, police officers have already issued about 19 thousand protocols for using mobile phones while driving. For comparison, about 40 thousand such violations were registered throughout 2025. The new technology should increase the effectiveness of control and reduce the number of distracted drivers on the country's roads.
