Yerevan City Hall has begun developing a comprehensive transport system reform, which may include measures to restrict the use of private cars. According to Mayor Tigran Avinyan, fundamental changes will begin to be implemented in 2027 after the completion of traffic flow analysis and the accumulation of statistical data.
Currently, a pilot phase of traffic monitoring has already been launched in the city at the entrances to the capital. Authorities are recording the number of cars entering Yerevan daily, as well as studying routes and congestion on key directions. These data are planned to be used to create park-and-ride facilities and transport hubs, which should reduce the load on central streets.
Special emphasis is placed on the development of public transport. The City Hall is considering expanding the bus and trolleybus network as an alternative to private cars. The first results of the monitoring are expected in autumn 2026, after which a detailed reform plan will be prepared, which will define the future structure of the urban transport system.
