Head of Armenian Central Bank Explains Conditions for Currency Interventions

"We generally intervene in the market when the market is one-sided"

The Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia, Martin Galstyan, stated that the regulator enters the foreign exchange market only in situations where it becomes one-sided.

According to him, the Central Bank of Armenia intervenes in the event of a significant imbalance between supply and demand that could distort exchange rate formation.

If there is an excess supply of currency in the market with no demand, the regulator may conduct operations to stabilize the situation.

Galstyan emphasized that such actions are targeted and aimed at preventing sharp distortions in pricing, rather than constant exchange rate regulation.
