Yerevan authorities intend to fully convert the city's public transport to electric traction in the future. This was stated by the mayor of the Armenian capital, Tigran Avinyan, at a meeting of the Council of Elders.
According to him, the transition to electric transport is part of the long-term strategy for the development of the city's transport system. For this purpose, the acquisition of new electric buses is being considered, and relevant proposals are currently being studied by the investment committee of the Armenian government.
As Tigran Avinyan reported, two options for fleet modernization are currently being analyzed. The first involves the acquisition of 250 new 18-meter articulated electric buses. The second option provides for replacing some of these vehicles with more compact 12-meter electric buses.
After completing research and evaluating all proposals, the authorities plan to make a final decision on the further development of electric public transport in Yerevan.
