Yerevan authorities have announced a long-term transition of urban public transport to electric traction. After updating the Higer bus fleet, the capital of Armenia will not purchase vehicles with internal combustion engines and will focus exclusively on electric buses.

According to Mayor Tigran Avinyan, two options for updating the fleet are currently being considered: purchasing 250 18-meter electric buses or switching to more compact 12-meter models. Final calculations and configuration selection are planned to be completed in the near future.

Avinyan clarified that replacing Higer buses does not imply a transition to a new type of non-electric transport. However, this is only an intermediate stage: in the future, the city will completely abandon the purchase of buses with traditional engines.

Yerevan's transport development strategy involves the gradual electrification of the entire public transport system of the capital, which in the future should lead to a complete transition to electric buses.
