EU opens market of 450 million: Armenia awaits export surge with duty-free access for 80%

Brussels is ready to send experts and allocate a new aid package to expand Armenian exports

The European Union intends to strengthen its support for Armenia in expanding exports to EU countries. As stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, a group of experts will be sent to the country to facilitate access to the European market.

According to her, Armenia will soon receive an additional 18 million euros. These funds could be used to establish an Export Promotion Agency. This tranche completes a support package of 52 million dollars.

Autonomous trade measures are being considered that would liberalize up to 80% of Armenian exports to the EU. "Thus, 80% of your trade with us will now be duty-free," von der Leyen noted.

This will allow redirecting supplies from the Russian direction to the single EU market, covering 450 million consumers. Almost 99% of Armenia's agricultural products, as well as over 90% of beverages and alcoholic products, will gain access to the European market.
