Armenia tightens control over online casinos: "black list" of websites to be introduced and gambling advertising restricted

Armenia has adopted amendments to the law "On the Regulation of Gaming Activities", aimed at strengthening control over online casinos and online gambling. This was announced by Rafael Gevorgyan, Deputy Head of the State Revenue Committee.

One of the key changes was the restriction of gambling advertising targeting on international online platforms. In addition, the country plans to create a special internet resource for promptly adding websites to the blocking list.

According to Gevorgyan, current blocking mechanisms remain insufficiently effective due to the rapid emergence of new websites and opportunities to circumvent restrictions, including the use of VPN services. He noted that existing blocking procedures are too slow and cumbersome.

The new system will include a three-stage protection mechanism. As part of the reform, an online resource will be created within the SRC structure, where employees will daily add websites to be blocked based on monitoring results.

Internet providers will be obliged to restrict access to resources included in the "black list", while only platforms from the "white list", formed within the framework of licensing, will be able to legally operate in the country.
