Armenia could gain a new role on the region's energy map and become an important transit link for energy supplies. This was stated by Iran's Ambassador to Armenia, Khalil Shirgolami.
According to the diplomat, with political will and mutually beneficial cooperation, Yerevan is capable of significantly strengthening its position in the energy sector. He noted that Armenia is located between two major energy powers – Iran, which is among the world leaders in oil and gas reserves, and Russia.
Shirgolami believes that the country's advantageous geographical position could become the basis for developing new energy routes and expanding Armenia's transit potential.
The ambassador also reported that Armenia and Iran continue to discuss various areas of cooperation. Negotiations are underway in the gas industry, electricity, transportation and transit of energy resources, as well as the supply of petroleum products.
The implementation of such projects, according to the Iranian side, could enhance Armenia's energy role and expand its participation in regional infrastructure initiatives.
