Armenia is preparing to strengthen control over internet crime: a specialized cyber laboratory is planned to be established under the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the near future. It is expected to increase the effectiveness of investigating internet crimes and other offenses related to digital technologies.
The acting Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Armen Mkrtchyan, announced the creation of the new infrastructure. According to him, the laboratory will become an important tool not only for domestic work but also for international police cooperation.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that modern crimes increasingly have a cross-border nature: preparation can take place in one country, while the crime itself is committed in another. Therefore, law enforcement agencies need to develop technical capabilities to work in the digital environment.
Mkrtchyan emphasized that the internet should be considered a full-fledged space for police work – it is necessary not only to investigate crimes already committed but also to identify threats and prevent illegal activities.
