E-gates to appear at Zvartnots Airport: passport control can be passed without a border guard

The technology will significantly speed up passport control

Armenia is preparing an automated document verification system that should speed up border crossing and reduce queues.

Automated e-gate passport control points are being prepared for installation at Zvartnots International Airport. The system will be implemented simultaneously with Armenia's transition to using biometric passports at border crossing points.

After launch, passengers will not need to go through the standard procedure directly with a border guard. It will be enough to scan the passport, after which the system will automatically verify the document and perform biometric identification of the person.

The technology is expected to significantly speed up passport control, especially during peak airport loads, and reduce passenger waiting times.

Armenian Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan and Deputy Head of the National Security Service Davit Sanamyan have already familiarized themselves with the preparation of the necessary infrastructure at Zvartnots. The parties also discussed further stages of installation and launch of automated control points.
