Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia is exploring the possibility of purchasing electricity from various countries, including Azerbaijan. The issue was discussed after a recent meeting between representatives of the energy departments of the two countries.
According to Pashinyan, the need for imports may arise given the growing demand for electricity, including due to investments in artificial intelligence-related projects. Armenia is holding similar talks with Georgia, Iran, and Turkey.
On August 25, in Lachin, representatives of the energy departments of Armenia and Azerbaijan discussed possible electricity supplies to both sides and the connection of the two countries' energy systems. Concurrently, with EU support, a converter station is being built on the Armenian-Georgian border, which should simplify the import and export of electricity.
