Armenia and Iran plan to create a "Simplified Customs Corridor" to expedite the passage of goods and vehicles across the border. According to the project, the customs authorities of the two countries will exchange information on goods, vehicles, and foreign trade participants electronically even before the goods are imported.
The system is expected to include information not only about companies and carriers but also about their employees. Such preliminary data exchange will allow customs services to assess upcoming deliveries and potential risks in advance, which should make clearance faster and more predictable.
However, only foreign trade participants with a low risk of violating customs legislation will be able to use the new mechanism. Thus, Armenia and Iran expect to simplify cross-border trade for the most reliable companies.
