Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan proposed to the international payment system Visa to consider reducing fees for non-cash transactions via POS terminals. The issue was discussed at a meeting between Grigoryan and a Visa delegation led by Tariq Mahmud, the company's regional head for Central Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, reducing fees could provide an additional incentive to decrease cash circulation in the country. Grigoryan suggested that, together with banks working with Visa, they explore possible options for reviewing current rates and find solutions that would make non-cash payments more accessible.
The parties also discussed current Visa programs in Armenia and new areas of cooperation. The company representative positively assessed the state of the country's banking system and noted the government's policy to expand non-cash circulation.
