Armenia could become one of the prominent centers of American artificial intelligence infrastructure. According to Bloomberg, in August, the startup Firebird launched a large computing complex in Hrazdan, approximately 45 km from Yerevan. By the end of 2027, its capacity is planned to increase to 300 MW, and the number of Nvidia accelerators to exceed 70,000. About 20% of the computing resources will be reserved for Armenian research projects, government agencies, and startups, while the rest is intended for foreign clients, including the American company Perplexity AI.
The project turned out to be connected not only with technological development but also with diplomacy. According to Bloomberg and previously published reports by The Wall Street Journal, the expansion of Armenia's access to advanced Nvidia chips was discussed by American negotiators in the context of resolving the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. At the same time, the Azerbaijani side stated that economic incentives were not necessary for reaching an agreement.
Armenia's ties with Nvidia began to form back in 2019. The company opened a representative office in the country in 2022, and in 2026, Nvidia announced its intention to invest in Firebird. According to Nvidia itself, the AI factory has already become the largest such facility in the region, and the project is considered a basis for further development of computing infrastructure in Armenia and other countries.
