Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced plans to restore and open the Meghri and Yeraskh railway sections, which existed during the Soviet period but were subsequently destroyed. He announced this at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Pashinyan, the implementation of the TRIPP project will provide a direct railway connection between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In addition, the route will connect the northern and southern regions of Armenia, as there is currently no railway connection between them without passing through the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Azerbaijan has a similar problem: railway communication with Nakhchivan is practically only possible through the territory of Armenia. The project envisages the formation of a multimodal transport and infrastructure network on the territory of Armenia.
TRIPP stands for Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity.
