Amazon is ready to invest in Armenia, but it needs a 1000 MW power plant

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the American company's interest

Amazon is ready to invest in Armenia, provided that the republic can ensure a stable power supply of about 1000 MW. Pashinyan spoke about this in an interview with "Infocom," referring to information received from the Minister of High-Tech Industry. According to the Prime Minister, the company links the scale of potential investments with the possibility of creating the necessary energy infrastructure.

Pashinyan emphasized that solar generation alone is not enough to meet such demand: electricity must be supplied continuously, around the clock. Among possible solutions, he named a combination of nuclear energy, energy storage systems, and wind power plants. According to the head of government, the needs of already approved artificial intelligence projects exceed Armenia's existing energy capabilities. It is the prospects of large investments that have become one of the reasons for returning to the discussion of building a more powerful nuclear power plant.

The specific Amazon project and its estimated scale have not yet been disclosed. However, the requirement to provide about 1000 MW of stable power may indicate plans to create a large infrastructure for cloud computing and artificial intelligence. If the project is implemented, it could potentially involve not one data center, but a complex of computing sites serving AWS customers in Armenia and beyond.
